No. Gold-plated jewellery carries a thin layer of real gold electroplated over a base metal — a layer thinner than a strand of hair that wears off with scratches, sweat, or repeated cleaning. Our pieces use a gold-tone, anti-tarnish finish over brass/alloy, designed to hold its colour through daily wear without an actual gold layer to wear away. Every Elura Edit piece is artificial/imitation jewellery, priced and described exactly as that — never marketed as gold-plated or real gold.
Yes — our anti-tarnish, gold-tone finish is designed to be hypoallergenic and gentle for everyday wear. As with any jewellery, we'd still suggest removing pieces before showering, swimming, or applying perfume directly, since prolonged contact with water and chemicals affects any finish over time.
We'd recommend removing it first. Water, chlorine, and skincare products can dull any anti-tarnish finish over time, ours included — taking pieces off before water contact is the easiest way to keep the gold-tone finish looking new for longer.
